It’s Past Time We Went Metric

It’s been over 50 years since the USA first spearheaded the drive for a one world standard only to become the only nation to back out of this commitment while the rest of the world converted as planned. The reasons for backing out to the author were flimsy and frivolous from this authors perspective. The elderly will be confused, our freeway ramps are set one mile apart therefore it will be confusing.

Take it from a person who did convert to the metric system that 50 odd years ago and take it from me the sky did not fall, in fact the sky made more sense once you realize the metric system is simply a calculator, you know how to use a calculator don’t you?

Seriously, the metric system is just a calculator. Everything is in units of 10. Move the decimal point and now it’s in units of 100, then 1000 and we are off to the races.

It really is past time we got up to speed on this issue and since our elected representative are failing to lead on this issue, we the people here and now will spearhead this drive to get our great nation up to speed with the rest of the world and stop being the lone hold out on this very important topic.

Everything in the world is already metric which you may have noticed. Mathematics is metric of course but you may not know that Medicine, Machinery, Automobiles, Aircraft, Space Craft are all in metric. In the metric system water freezes at 0 degrees and boils at 100 degrees. Is that not the better method of measurement than than the 32 degrees and the 212 degrees the standard model gives us. A model I may add that only came about from the bench of just one particular experimenter of the day hundreds of years ago.

Citizen Vatch has initiated a petition to gather signatures to address this issue, with the goal of eventually putting it on our state ballot if necessary. However, we hope it doesn’t come to that. We hope with a little history and citizen call outs our representatives will see the light as we do and get on board with the rest of the world.
